This pretty little painting is like a snapshot of a sunny Spring afternoon. It reminds me of a fuzzy polaroid picture, which transports you to right back to a 'moment' in time. I wanted to capture the bold, yet delicate beauty of magnolias in this painting. The layers in this piece came together unusually, as I let much of the background remain as if it is 'peeking through’. This gives the lower and upper layers lots of contrast with each other and makes the piece feel rich and full. I used heavy, bold brush strokes along with a palette knife to apply the paint very thickly. This results in a beautiful texture that stands out and begs you to look closer. The soft colours bring in the ethereal light that I wanted this piece to embody.
