All About Commissions

There is a quiet mystery to commissions. How do I order one? ...Does the process take a long time? ...What if I'm not happy with it? I am writing this blog post to quash the worries and explain exactly how the commission process works.

What is a commission?

Definition: A commission is the act of requesting the creation of a piece, often on behalf of another.

Sometimes somebody loves one of my original pieces, but it's not quite the perfect colour or size. This is where commissions come in perfectly. You can 'order' a similar piece to be created exactly for your space, in the perfect colours to match your decor.

I also create custom floral bouquet paintings. These are the perfect way to make your wedding bouquet last forever, or to have a painting of all your favorite flowers.

What is the commission process?

The first step is to fill out a commission enquiry form. This sparks the conversation about what subject you would like, size and other details. I will also give you a few different quotes for different sizes and mediums.

>>>You can see the form here.

One we've decided on a theme, size and medium, I usually ask for 50% of the price to begin the commission. This allows me to purchase the canvas and the materials I need to create your painting. Next, we can get started with the design concepts and ideas. I usually put down a first layer to 'map out' the painting, and then I'll email this across to check you're happy with the concept.

Over the course of 2-4 weeks (depending on the size and medium), I progress with the painting and send you regular updates and photos so you can see how the painting is coming along. At this point, I encourage feedback, and we can change/alter bits if you want to.

Once the painting is finished, and you're in love with the final piece, I leave it to dry for 3-14 days (dependant on the medium). Then I safely package it up using lots of bubblewrap and cardboard, and ship it to you tracked delivery.

See, it's not scary at all! 😀

Frequent Q&A's

  • Which countries do you ship to? I ship globally and regularly ship overseas to the US, Australia & other countries (far away from the UK)

  • What sizes do you offer? I can do any size ranging from 16" - 40". If you have a specific size in mind, you can contact me to confirm this is possible.

  • Do you accept returns on commissions?  Because of the personal nature with commissions, I don't offer returns, unless damaged in transit.

  • Can I order one for somebody else?  Yes! I am bringing out 'gift card' wedding bouquet commissions, so that you have the perfect gift when attending any wedding. If you'd like more information on this, feel free to email shop@katiejobling.com and I'd be happy to explain how this works.
